Reclaim already paid CGT on house sale

Postby sapstar » Tue Jan 25, 2022 6:54 pm

I have sold a property in the tax year 2021/22 and paid the CGT during this sale. Subsequently in the year I have made a loss in sale of shares. Would I be able to reclaim some of the CGT I have already paid.

Current year losses can be used against gains in the same year. (So Yes)
With a pinch of salt take what I say, but don't exceed your RDA

A followup question on this. I have some stocks with unrealised losses. If I sell these stocks today at a loss and buy them again, can I use these losses to claim CGT already paid against my property sale this tax year?

As long as you don’t fall foul of the bed and breakfasting rules.
