CGT Share Matching / B&B Question

Postby alexroyy » Fri Feb 18, 2022 3:51 pm

Hi all - looking to understand the following:

If I sell shares in BHP Group Limited which are listed on the ASX in AUD, and repurchase an identical number of shares in BHP Ground Limited on the London Stock Exchange in GBP using an ADR (so that in effect I am beneficial owner of those shares), are these matched under B&B rules?

It's worth noting that BHP shares are cross listed not dual listed. I.e. it is exactly the same company and share class being traded via both exchanges.

I have already looked at the HMRC guidance on share matching and been given a few different hypotheses on this, but could do with a firm opinion.

Thanks :)
