capital loss

Postby mountainbike » Wed Nov 24, 2010 4:39 pm

If the accounts of a company show a write down for investment in shares, can a capital loss be claimed in the corporation tax return (the companies are not connected and the shares would not have qualified for SSE if there had been a gain)? Are any elections required.

Thanks

Are you making a negligible value claim (should be possible for ordinary shares), or merely hoping to mark them to market (not possible if these are ordinary shares).
