Filing for tax return, have a small amount of money I can’t account for

Postby James.brown » Mon Sep 07, 2020 2:43 pm

I’m doing my tax returns for the first time this year. A family member gave me £2000 as a gift this year, I’m overseas so they gave it to my friend to put in his bank account and he transferred it to me.

My family member has told me that they don’t want me to tell the authorities it came from them, I think they made it off the books so they don’t want to be associated with it.

So what should I put this 2k down as?

Thanks

Enter the gift in the same place that you enter birthday and Xmas presents.

But seeing as it came from my friends bank account, wouldn’t they want to ask him where he got it from ?
