Moving From UK to Ireland

Postby Sok110 » Mon Apr 22, 2024 11:10 am

Hi, Can anyone tell me where I can get professional advice on when and how would be the best method to move from UK to Ireland. Currently have residential and BTL property in UK. Am concerned about CGT. Also have an apartment in Ireland, which we are using at present for 'Holidays' in Ireland which we intend to sell and then use that money to buy an apartment in Cardiff to use when we visit here and also as AirB&B. Many thanks.

Any of the Big 4 or top 10 should have firms in Ireland and the UK so can advise on a joined up basis. There may be smaller boutiques that specialise in UK/Ireland taxation that may be cheaper.

The general rule is that property remains taxable where its situs lies and you would get a foreign tax credit in the country where you are tax resident (who would tax you on your worldwide income and gains). Ireland however does have a remittance basis of taxation for non doms, similar to the UK's current rules.
