Gift to Charity

Postby dpng » Thu Apr 03, 2025 11:40 am

My income tax liability each year is minimal since income is little more than the state pension. However this year I have sold a property and have paid capital gains tax. If I make a gift to charity before the end of this tax year, can the charity claim an uplift based on my capital gain tax paid this tax year?
Thank you

The charity will be able to claim gift aid provided you have paid sufficient tax for the relevant year to cover it.

You don't have to make the gift this tax year (ie. today). Provided you make the gift before you file your tax return, I believe you can read it back to the year to which the return relates.

Thank you for your response. That's exactly the information that I needed.
