Tax query over taking 1995 pension and working fulltime

Postby PaulGB999 » Sat Oct 25, 2025 11:59 am

Hi all

Been hesring people taking their 1995 NHS pensions
Just trying to get my head around something if I may ask a question?

As an example, suppose I did retire and return to fulltime work in NHS and my 1995 NHS pension would gjve me say £20000 a year. If I continued to work fulltime and my work income is e.g. salary of £60000, can you tell me what tax I would pay in doing so?
How much £££ would I have?

Does the tax come over seperately, one from pension one from salary?

I know £12570 is tax free allowance, then 20% tax upto £52270 where 40% after that

I know I would lose a lot in tax but as other posts I have seen say its better to atleast be taking. 60% extra income in versus 100% of nothing as not taking pension

The other thing just concerned about is just reading something saying about abatement. Something about if your prnsion £ and income is more than what £££ income one was earning without pension payments??? Something like that

So I am trying to suss out if this woukd work for me

Many thanks for your help
