Hi, i worked abroad for a few months last year and i am now back in the UK permanently employed.

I have just received a P91 (i think) and it asked where i was during these dates....

As i would prefer not to pay tax on this(its a few quid!), what should i put? If i say i was "travelling" will they ask for any more info/flight stubs etc? And will they remove my tax allowance for those months if i say i was travelling? I didnt claim any dole either when i returned

Many thanks in advance

You are liable for tax on earnings outside the UK, as you have not been out long enough to lose your tax residence. The good news is you donÂ’t lose any entitlement to your personal allowances during this time.

As a tax adviser I would always suggest that it is in your best interest to be honest. It may well be that your personal allowance will offset any tax on your earnings abroad and you will have no further liability. However if you lie on your form you may be subject to penalties if the truth comes to light at a later date.
