part of my income is taxed at 40% my wife is taxed
at basic rate and is unlikely to move to the 40%
threshold
can I re-allocate some of my earnings to my wife
to save tax?

This depends on your circumstances. If the income is from a business, property or investments, then probably. If it is from employments in businesses that you do not own, then probably not.

Thank's Nigel,
To clarify, I am employed by a company with a salary not taxed @ 40%, but, with a company vehicle. I've just been landed with a 1700 quid tax bill because of I.R. cock-up's on coding. I
just want make sure it doesn't happen again.
