Credit for tax on foreign dividends

Postby AlanJD » Thu May 11, 2017 6:12 pm

In previous years there was an allowance made for foreign tax deducted on a dividend payment.

This year the tax on all dividends has changed, with the first 5k being exempt. The on-line calculations no longer seem to give any credit for foreign tax.

If the 5k has already been used up by UK tax surely the tax charge on foreign dividends should be reduced by the foreign tax paid. How should the on-line calculation be changed to reflect this?

Double taxation relief will still be available subject to the terms of the double taxation treaty.
