Taxable losses

Postby Ajd1984 » Tue Apr 02, 2019 8:50 am

Hi, I wonder if someone could help with what counts as a taxable loss. I recently bought a van for work privately and earlier in the year it was seized by police. The van was stolen and the registration on the van was taken from another so it looked as if it was the original. I’d done all the relevant hpi cheeks and all came back clean. Problem is I’ve had to go and by another van for work which I’ll put against my tax but I’m not sure if I can put the other against my tax as a loss. Thanks

Is this a van for employment or your business?

I’m a self employed sole trader and used the van daily for work
