I haven't paid income tax for around 4 years

There are a couple of questions that I need your help regarding the income tax.

My situation:
I used to work for a UK company as a self-employed from 26/08 2014 to 24/06/2015 but did not register myself as a self-employed in HMRC. During the period, my monthly fee was paid via bank transfer and I did not pay for the income tax because I did not understand how I was hired and how the tax system works in the UK. Also, I did not have my NI number and have never had any documents from HMRC. After that, I got a permanent job and got my NIN and have been paying for the income tax since July in 2015.

Questions:
1. Does HMRC have my tax record in the period from 26/08 2014 to 24/06/2015?
2. Do I need to pay the tax in the period from 26/08 2014 to 24/06/2015?
3. If I were not taking any actions towards it, what would be happening and what would HMRC do both in the short and long term.

It is really appreciated if you could help me out.

Kind regards,

Basic answer is yes that income is taxable, but do not go blindly into this.

The sooner to get this sorted out the better as penalties may be accumulating. Certainly advisable for you to tell HMRC before them finding out.

Do you have all your records including costs ?
