Tax deduction medical expenses

Postby Arsenic » Thu Sep 05, 2019 1:44 pm

Hi,

Can I deduct the expenses for medical treatment that is not covered/offered bei NHS that I paid out of my own pocket. If, where to do so on the self-assesement?

Thanks,
Mike

Medical treatment is not a business expense so unfortunately not. There may be extremely rare circumstances where you could argue it (such as a niche treatment for a professional sportsman) but even then HMRC may disagree.
