HMRC letter

Postby Yiannis17 » Fri Jul 22, 2022 5:17 pm

Afternoon

Had a someone who received one of those fishing letters from HMRC stating they may have information about offshore income not being declared in his tax return. It transpires that income shown as UK should have been shown as foreign income.

He has amended his tax return and re submitted it to HMR. In their initial letter HMRC also asked for a disclosure to be signed stating that his affairs are fully up to date and all his income has been declared. Does this need to be signed? He is not keen on signing it as he states the submission of his tax return and amendment should suffice as he sees this as a form of intimidation.

HMRC belt and braces attitude.Signing it changes situation from error or mistake to deliberate avoidance for any future discoveries.
