Not paid any tax

Postby lin_zhi_you » Tue Jan 21, 2025 9:49 pm

Hi Guys, can you give me some simple information please. I will spare you the story as I did what I needed to do, so please give me some straight information.

I bought a new house and lost my job all in one go,
so tax office probably does not know my new address.

I have not paid any tax now in about five years.

When I start work again then will the Tax Office ask me
were I have been, what I have been doing and why I have
not paid any tax in all this time.

Thanks a bunch.

Why would you need to pay tax if you haven’t been working?

The details are not relevent in the first instance, the question I have asked is will
or will they not ask me where I have been and what I have been doing?

Thanks.

40 years ago when I was in the Inland Revenue, yes. We would look to fill in the gaps.

Now, I don’t think they care. They will wait for the computer to risk assess you.

Here's hoping "connect" isn't as good as they say it is.
