NHS Pension tax code 2310L and Tax return

Postby Asvsix » Fri Jan 23, 2026 4:42 pm

Hello,

I recently took on a new client who is a retired medical doctor. His NHS pension p60 for 2024/25 shows income of £23k, tax deducted £403 and higher tax code 2310L. When i enter his income in the tax return software it is showing tax due of about £2100 less £403. Is there any way that i can adjust for the higher tax code. Or is this one of those scenarios that hmrc put the adjustment through. I thank you advance.

You need to actually check what's coded into their tax code to check how HMRC have done their estimate, could be anything but I'd imagine it will be expenses they claimed in 2023/24 and HMRC may have assumed these have carried forward into 2024/25. The tax return is ultimately a reconciliation so you'd need to ask about actual expenses for 2024/25
