Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the Fuel Benefit for a dual fuel car (LPG) is lower than the normal charge for a petrol card?

Thanks, Ian

Fuel Benefit is based on the same percentage as that used to calculate the Car Benefit(linked to C02 emissions), and as LPG can get a discount of up to 2% (1% discount on Car Price, plus a further 1% if CO2 figure is 20gkm below the level set for the year), then yes the fuel benefit can be lower than petrol or diesel.
Percentages for Petrol & Diesel range from 15% to a maximum of 35%, whereas alternative fuels can be below 15% with reductions.
For 2003/2004, the Revenue have set a fixed figure of £14400 for Fuel Benefit. To calculate the charge, you multiply that figure by the CO2 emissions percentage as used to calculate the Car Benefit.
Full details and examples are outlined in the Revenue leaflet IR172 (Income Tax and Company Cars).
