Beckham law in Spain - UK Pension Treatment

Postby jomope » Sat Nov 09, 2024 6:19 pm

Hello,

I am planning my move to Spain next year to work under the Beckham law. I will be 55 years old. Originally from Spain, I have lived in the UK for over 20 years. I have a private pension and am considering the most tax-efficient way to draw down from my UK pension.

I understand that 25% of the lump sum can be taken tax-free before I move to Spain.

My questions are:

Would additional pension drawdowns be taxed in Spain or the UK?

What steps should I consider to optimise my pension withdrawals from a tax perspective?

Thank you.

Dont know much about Beckham law but from my research, it appears that your UK pension withdrawals will be taxed by Spain not UK. I am guessing defined contribution pension ?

I am not an expert in these matters but interested these expat topics hence trying to help thats all.

May be worth trying high traffic forums such as reddit /FIREUK /HenryUK /UkPersonalFinance Bogleheads non US investing, MoneySavingExpert etc. The International forum on this board seems awfully quiet for some reason. Perhaps Beckham law is a special thing that requires expertise of the kind of lawyers only the likes of David Beckham could afford. Well, we ordinary mortals cannot score a free kick like Beckham so we cannot afford such Saville Row suited types, our only hope is such forums, chatGPT etc.
