Delays in 2020 refunds from IRS

Postby TG-W2 » Sun Jan 09, 2022 9:24 am

Hi,

i still have not received the refund from my 2020 tax return.

My 2020 tax return was mailed in Feb 2021. From June 2021 onwards, the IRS mobile app ( IRS2Go) began saying "Still processing" but since 1/1/22, it does not recognise my refund as it seems to have defaulted to reporting 2021 refunds ( nor 2020).

If I try to use www.irs.gov, that will not recognise my details ( SSN, refund amount, submitted date etc)

Is anyone else in this situation?

Any ideas on sorting this out without an expensive, ( probably on hold) phonecall to the USA?

Tony

Hi,
looks like we could still be waiting some time as the backlog is not decreasing very rapidly .

Acooring to this Yahoo article...

“Our assessment of the remaining inventory and increased production levels indicates that the IRS will not meet all of its goals by the end of 2022 and will continue to have a backlog into the 2023 filing season.”

The audit found that, as of the week ending Oct. 28, 2022, 9.6 million tax returns were awaiting processing or other resolution compared with 10.8 million returns a year ago.

Hi, does anyone have any update on the backlog status?

Or any tips in encouraging a response from IRS on a specific tax-return.
