Problems with Royal Mail rejecting IRS refund cheque.

Hi,

not really a taxation question however I hope it's allowed here.

I finally got a response from IRS regarding my 2020 refund..... they told me that Royal Mail have rejected/returned ithe check twice!

They have no further details on why.
The address being used is fully correct.
I'm being told that a bank transfer is not possible ( as it is a prior year refund)

I've asked them to try sending it again.

Has anyone come across this issue and/or have any thoughts on how to move forward?

Our clients routinely receive refunds and correspondence from the IRS. I'd suggest telephoning the IRS using this telephone number: 001 267 941 1000 (selecting options 1, 4 and then 2 to speak with an operator). Because it is sometimes tough to get the IRS to answer the phone, we recommend calling at exactly 11:00 am in the UK, which is the time the IRS start taking calls.

Thanks David,

I'd spoken to them on that number this morning having received their "your refund check was returned to us" letter yesterday.

They had nothing to propose other than re-issuing the check.

Fingers crossed it gets through this time.

So, 8 weeks later and the replacement refund check the IRS instigated on 17/8/23 has not arrived.

The IRS2GO app is still showing " delay in processing" so has not been updated for several months.

I'll ring IRS again on Monday but am not optimistic as, when I spoke to them on 17/8, they seemed to have no suggestions other than to post a replacement paper check ( as the bank transfer is evidently not available except for the current tax year).

Has anyone :-
received a bank transfer for a tax-year other than the current tax year?
any thoughts on levers I can pull or alternate strategies?

I hadn't previously as there was no info on when the original check had been posted.
Just before posting my latest message on here, I'd contacted RM ( about the "current" missing check) and am awaiting their response.... to be honest, I'm not hopeful that they would capture data on returned items .

Hi, RM have responded and confirmed that they have no records of anything which may have been returned to USA.


I'll be ringing IRS at 11am.

To my surprise, I have today received my refund cheque.
