IHT - BPR exemption

Postby kiloware43 » Mon Jun 19, 2017 3:53 pm

I believe/ hope this is an easy one. Just wanted confirmation really.

Have AIM stocks in eligible BPR companies held in an 'IHT' package, managed by a specialist financial management company. So IHT exemption after 2 years etc etc (but a 2% annual management charge)

If I have investments in the same stocks, but held in my own name through an on line broker, I'm assuming the same IHT benefit would apply.

If not why not I suppose, but would feel more comfortable to be told as long as my name is associated with the investments, it will qualify.
Thanks

Not sure what an "IHT Package" is but if you hold the relevant shares in your name (or a nominee for you) then BPR will in principle apply.

It's likely that if you have bought the same shares your product has invested into that they are AIM shares.

The AIM stock exchange is deemed to be unlisted and consequently if the company meets the criteria it will be BPR qualifying.

As such, if you own AIM shares both personally and through an IHT product they should both qualify for BPR (assuming the product provider has done appropriate due diligence).
