VCT Investments and Estates

Postby dally » Tue Jan 29, 2019 10:41 pm

Hope somebody can help with what I hope is a simple question?

Are VCT dividends received by executors taxable or not (assuming non-taxable during deceased's life)?

What is the CGT position on disposal of VCT investments by executors?

Thanks in advance.

Not as simple as you might hope but the exemptions continue.

It isn't clear (to me) whether the CGT exemption applies to estates but I suspect not. The main legislation states that the shares must be held by an "individual" so it might be necessary to transfer them to an heir who can sell or receive dividends tax free. In any case, the shares should benefit from a CGT uplift to market value on death so that the gain on a sale by the estate would be minimal.
