Inheritance payout coming from South Africa

Postby LollyS » Mon Jun 24, 2019 9:37 pm

My mum and dad, who were South African citizens (but also British by birth) have passed away. They lived in South Africa since the 1950's.

Upon their deaths their property was sold and any savings, policies, etc. have been liquidated. The funds are now about due to be disbursed to the heirs.

I have been residing in the UK, permanently, since 1998 and am a British Citizen by birth. I am hoping my portion of inheritance funds can be transferred direct to my British Bank account if approved by the South African Reserve Bank.

Would I be liable to inheritance tax in the UK?
