Paying IHT by Instalments Permitted?

Postby tizzy99 » Mon Apr 19, 2021 9:36 am

Hello

Please advise in this situation.

The estate comprises two properties. There are three beneficiaries. IHT is paid before probate is granted, but can be by instalments as the properties are unsold. One property is sold within 6 months of death to a third party. The full IHT relating to this property is payable by the end of the 6th month after death, correct? The second property is sold 9 months after death to one of the three beneficiaries. Can the IHT related to this property continue to be paid by instalments? Or 1/3 by instalments, and 2/3 due on sale? Or all due on sale?

Thanks.
