Flat lived in by father

Postby riccardob » Fri May 28, 2021 6:15 pm

Hi,
I would be grateful for some advice on the following:

Parent a dies and leaves flat to parent b. Parent b redirects to son via dov but keeps living in the flat rent free.
As the flat was not a gift but simply redirected via dov am I right in saying there would not be an issue if rent
is not being paid?

Thanks

Assuming any IHT due on the estate was paid, a DOV stands in place of the will. Son providing rent free accommodation to mother doesn't raise any issues.
With a pinch of salt take what I say, but don't exceed your RDA
