How to determine intestate?

If a relative is deceased, how can it be determined if a will has been written or if the person has died intestate? That is, if it is not known who the person's solicitor is.

You search for the will. Solicitor may not have been used.
Wills don't have to be registered, so there's no public body that can help.
With a pinch of salt take what I say, but don't exceed your RDA
