Is USA 401k treated as pension for IHT purposes?

Can someone please advise how the HMRC treats US 401k assets that are part of an estate ?

The 401k plan is a tax-advantaged, defined-contribution retirement account offered by many employers in the USA. I was wondering if this is recognised as a pension plan in the UK, and if so if it would be excluded from the estate in the same way the UK pensions are.
