Tax relief for working from home

Postby fourfoot » Mon Aug 20, 2018 12:44 pm

Hi all,
It has recently been brought to my attention that I can claim back some tax for working from home (permenant, no contribution from employer) via the P87 form.

I believe I can reclaim a flat £18 per month for this without having to provide receipts, but in order to do so, do I put a work at home expense of £216 per year on the P87, or do I put the higher amount and HMRC will just cap it at £216 for the year?

Thanks

It's generally accepted by HMRC that a use of home allowance of £4 pw (£18 pcm) will not be challenged.

If you claim more, HMRC won't cap it, but they may ask you to justify it.
