Is it possible to find out if one's NI Contributions are up-to-date, and if so, how? Self-employed facing probable unemployment due to health problems. Thanking you in advance.

Write to NI Contributions office.

Self employed people are not normally eligible for job seekers allowance which lasts for only 6 months.

I am not too sure about qualification for incapacity benefit or sick benefit.

Thank you, that is what I thought - the inquiry is on behalf of a friend who is also nearing retirement age, advised by her GP to give up work and claim Incapacity Benefit.
