Online work and tax?

Just started working online as a freelance writer. Is there any tax with this kind of work?

You really think its plausible that this could be one occupation that is exempt from tax?

Hello Limboland,

As you are self employed and assuming you have not done so already, you will need to register for self assessment with HMRC as you will be required to file a self assessment tax return for the current tax year (2015/16).

We would not be able to determine if there is a tax liability until the current tax year has ended, that being 05 April 2016.

At this point and once your self assessment tax return has been completed, the tax calculation would be performed and the outcome then known.

Happy to help if required so if you need any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,

Nikki Sizer

Most good writers don’t earn much. If you are one of them and your earnings prior to self-employment are within reasonable limits, you may be able to apply for Tax Credits, particularly if you have children.
