Legal App

Postby LegalEntrepreneur » Mon Apr 17, 2017 10:49 am

Hello everyone,

I see there is a common problem when it comes to understand laws and taxation for small business.

There are slight changes in the law, that not everyone is aware of. Most of the times the only alternative business have is to hire lawyers or accountants to get things in order or just to understand them.

I am thinking to solve this problem, but first I would like to ask for some feedback and see if this can actually be viable.

1st option - What about an app that would give notifications every time a law changes? It would give the information in such a way that would be easy to understand and the user would know exactly what to do, if action would be required to be taken. (The app would cost 10 pounds a month)

2nd option - An app that does exactly what the 1st option proposes but on the top of that, the app would give you not only information based only on external sources(law changes) but also information based on internal sources( purchase of a van, hiring 5 people ). And all of this, with just a few taps of your finger. You insert your information and the app would automatically give you personalised answer.

Looking forward to reading your feedback.

My view on this is that all business owners should have an accountant and tax adviser (although that might be the same person). UK tax law has become so ridiculously complex that it's almost impossible for a lay person to keep on top of things as well as a day job. It's hard enough for me to keep on top of the specific areas of tax I specialise in and advise on every day.

There may be a market for those that want to keep on top of things from a simplified point of view, but I think it'd be very difficult to keep on top of the interaction of the various rules via a simple app interface.

I can see a dividend vs salary app being attractive, but there are free websites that already do that.

Personally I think it'd be a huge task to try and develop it and keep it simple enough for someone to understand, yet detailed enough so you don't get sued for someone relying on your 'advice'.

Good luck with it though!

1st option - What about an app that would give notifications every time a law changes?
How many law changes were there in 2016?

What do you consider to be laws? Primary, secondary, tertiary legislation etc? local laws? judicial made law?

When say a Finance Act becomes law would that trigger a single, presumably lengthy/detailed notification or would your app fire off a steady bombardment of notifications for each change contained in the Finance Act?
