P11D online submission mandatory?

Postby Jetsetter4805 » Thu May 03, 2018 4:16 pm

Hi all, is it compulsory to make an online P11D submission for myself as Director/employee even if the expenses paid during the year and for reimbursed travel costs and would thus be covered by the 'exemption'? In other words, is it still necessary to make a NIL submission on the HMRC website by 6 July?

Many thanks,

A NIL submission for P11D isn't mandatory in any circumstances. However, if P11Ds have been previously filed and if HMRC have sent a reminder (they are starting to land now), then it can save a lot of trouble later by simply completing the notification that no P11D is due. For the sake of two minutes, you will avoid the whole penalty/appeal process.

Many thanks for the response. No P11Ds have been filed in the past and no reminders received as yet. Is there a simple way to notify HMRC that no P11D is due either via the free PAYE software or on the HMRC website? Many thanks

It takes two minutes at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/paye-no-return-of-class-1a-national-insurance-contributions
