Main residence election

If a main residence election is back dated, can a subsequent election be backdated to before the date the previous election was made?

e.g. Main residence election made 1st August 2018 to make property A main residence from 1st August 2017. (A and B both being residences)

Can a new election be made making property B the main residence from 2 August 2017 or does it have to be from 2 August 2018 or later?

FWIW, property A is now showing a paper loss while B still has a significant gain. If the election can be backdated all the way back to the previous election then PPR 'months' will start accruing straight away on B. If it can only go back 6 months then it already gets the last 18 months so there's no point making a new election yet.

As long as you're within the time limits you can change the election at will. (not more than Two years earlier Sched 20 para 59(3) FA 1996
With a pinch of salt take what I say, but don't exceed your RDA
