Foreign income

Postby kevincab » Thu Jul 25, 2019 7:39 am

Hi all,

I have earned GBP33,000 in UK during 2018 and transfer it to my overseas account in Dec 2018. In July 2019, I remit this GBP33,000 back to my UK account. I want to know whether HMRC will classify it as the foreign income and tax me again. As I am a non domicile UK resident and the GBP33,000 has been taxed in UK in 2018 already.

Many thanks.

No, it isn't foreign income.

You might have to take care if the account the money was transferred to includes foreign income of the current tax year. The ordering rules could look to tax that income ahead of the already taxed UK income being returned to the UK.
