Minister of Religion purchasing property

Postby M&S2024 » Fri Apr 12, 2024 2:11 pm

I'm a Minister of Religion (Church of England) recognised as such by HMRC and required to live in the accommodation provided by the church.
I hope to purchase a property this year that I will occupy on retirement in a year or so.
I do not own a property at present. I have owned a property in the past so I do not qualify as a first time buyer.
I'm uncertain about how HMRC classify the purchase for Stamp Duty as I won't be living in it; do not own another property; am required to live in a church-owned property.

Q: At what rate will Stamp Duty be liable?

There doesn't appear to be any exemption available.
With a pinch of salt take what I say, but don't exceed your RDA

Thank you for posting pawncob

My query is whether Stamp Duty is payable at the usual rate as I don’t own a property already or at the higher rate (owning one and buying a second property)

You don't currently own a property, so it's standard rate.
