HMRC and DWP are jointly making available material on the New Enterprise Allowance (NEA) which provides money and support to people receiving certain benefits who want to start their own business.

Introduction

HMRC and the DWP are jointly offering a series of videos, case studies and promotional material on the New Enterprise Allowance (NEA).

If you have a good idea for a business, then the NEA could provide you with the money and support you need to get that business off the ground. HMRC and DWP aim to guide you through this process.

Eligibility criteria for the NEA

To be eligible for the NEA you must be aged 18 or over, have a business idea and receive one of the following benefits:

  • Jobseeker’s allowance (or your partner does)
  • Employment and Support allowance (or your partner does)
  • Income support, if you’re a lone parent, or you’re sick or disabled.

You may also be eligible if you get universal credit.

There is more information on the NEA on GOV.UK.

The webinars

The webinars are to take place on:

  • Tuesday 26 July at 12:00
  • Wednesday 31 August 2016 at 12:00

If you have not taken part in one of HMRC’s live webinars before, this is what you must do in order to register:

  1. Sign up by providing a name and email address – a link to attend will be sent to you.
  2. Ask questions in the text box on the screen – this will be explained during the webinar.

Webcams or microphones are not needed to use the service as HMRC will not be able to see or hear the participants.

It is necessary to register and log in at least five minutes before a live webinar is due to start.

Information on HMRC’s other digital support products can be found on the LITRG website and include e-learning products on a variety of tax-related subjects including self-employment, being an employer, VAT, the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) and International Trade.

You can find out more about self-employment in the Tax Guides section of the LITRG website.
