Three new free toolkits have just been launched by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to help tax agents and their clients reduce errors when completing tax returns.

The toolkits, which are available from Toolkits to Help Reduce Errors cover:

  • VAT Partial Exemption;
  • VAT Output Tax;
  • National Insurance Contributions and Statutory Payments.

Brian Redford, Acting Director, Business Customer Unit, said:

“Our free toolkits have been well received by agents because we are being proactive in talking to them about the common risks and errors we find in returns. Since the release of the first toolkits last year, there have been over 67,000 downloads.

The toolkits were developed with the help of the agent community and their use is entirely voluntary but they set out the steps that can be taken to reduce errors.”

There are 12 additional toolkits available which cover a wide range of subjects including Capital v Revenue expenditure, Property Rental, and Trusts and Estates.
