It appears that "essential upgrades" which closed the HMRC online agents services earlier this week, have temporarily “culled” client lists.
This morning a TaxationWeb visitor reported that he had lost all but three clients from his list. Subsequent discussions with HMRC's Electronic Business Unit revealed to our visitor that this is not an isolated issue - in the operator's opinion, it has affected all agents. Indeed, throughout the morning, more and more agents have been reporting problems.
It is understood that HMRC's IT partner is currently investigating the situation urgently and further information will be provided as soon as possible.
Last week, HMRC announced that they are preparing to move all PAYE records onto one computer system. This will replace the 12 separate geographical databases that HMRC currently use. Concern has already been expressed over this transfer and the problems that have been emerging today with the online agent lists will no doubt add fuel to this already warm fire!
