LITRG has launched an email help service pilot in partnership with Advice NI offering free guidance about tax and national insurance.

Background

LITRG has been developing resources that aim to help low income migrants coming to live in the UK, either temporarily or permanently, by explaining their tax obligations and entitlements. This exercise is part of an HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)-funded project.

Email help service for voluntary sector organisations

From 22 July 2013 LITRG is offering an email help service in partnership with Advice NI. This helpline will provide basic guidance on tax, national insurance, self-employment, tax credits and child benefit to voluntary sector organisations that support low income migrants across the UK. The email help service will be run by Advice NI staff with support from LITRG technical officers.

The email help service is a one-year pilot, meaning it will run from 22 July 2013 until 21 July 2014.

The email address is migrantstax@adviceni.net.

Further information

Anyone coming from another country to live or work in the UK is included as a migrant. Anyone is considered to be ‘low income’ if they have an annual income of less than £15,000.

This email help service complements the telephone helpline for low income migrants launched on 16 July 2013 in partnership with the Migrants Resource Centre. Migrants in need of basic guidance can contact the telephone helpline on 033 33355 333.

Both help services are supported by a range of recently published materials aimed at migrants and their advisers. For more information on the telephone helpline and the information materials visit this article.
